Superman can’t save us from Soulja Boy…

Remember I mentioned I was going to the Spice Girl’s reunion tour?

Well it was last night and all it did was make me feel old. Anytime in the middle of a performance the entertainers start doing a mega mix rendition of “Celebration” and “We Are Family”, you’re old. And when you actually start dancing to it and enjoying it, it’s time for a walker and a new set of teeth. Although, I’m not complaining, I have no regrets about my real life Spice Girl experience.

The highlight (or maybe this is a lowlight) of my night was when we (I went with some coworkers) first arrived at the arena. The lights were still on and there was a DJ spinning some of the latest pop and hip-hop cuts (I’m assuming?) while people were finding their seats.

And then it happened.

The DJ messed around and played Soulja Boy’s “Crank that Superman” song or whatever it’s called.

Picture this: 10,000 (a majority white) female teenie-boppers, in spandex, platform pumps and pigtails doing the “Superman”.

I mean everyone stood up and started cranking their “Superman”. I wouldn’t have minded if it was just, “Going Down”, or “Ballin’”, but the “Superman”? Really? How old are you? Sit down!

I almost had a heart attack when that song came on. The worst part was, they were on point too. I mean they had every last crank, toe touch and “You Know!” down. I’ll tell you what I want, what I really, really want and that is to not ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever see anyone doing the “Superman” again.

Please. Kill. Me. Now.

I heard Soulja Boy is in the hospital right now. Good. He needs to sit there and think about what he’s done.

Ok enough of me being so melodramatic. Moving on.

I want to apologize to bloggers who I haven’t visited in a while (or at all) and my postings for (still) being on BP time. I still don’t have the Internet on my laptop. The only time I can comment and post is at the end of my day, on my roommate’s computer. Boo.

Unless I get lucky, because sometimes I can trade sexual favors with the neighbors for Internet time. But that is starting to get risky. I’m running out of creative positions for my right leg.

And for those of you haven’t gotten over it, yes, Ms Puddin’ went to a Spice Girls concert. I bet you dance around in front of your mirror, singing “Spice up your life!” into a shoe, too.

* crickets *

Well at least it’s better than the “Superman”…

I think it's wonderful that you went to a Spice Girls' concert.

I don't know what the Superman dance is, but I'm willing to learn.

I saw the Spice Girls last night. On the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Also, that Soulja Boy song is ridiculous. At this one dive bar in my old college neighborhood, whenver it comes on every one in the place literally drops what they're doing/saying and starts doing the dance. The first time it happened I was confused as fuck.

onthevirg- Is no one recognizing the fact that I was reliving a childhood memory? And virg you ve got to be there for the good times and the bad…

suite b- I was having a moment, but I think I go that out of my system for good…really halfway through I was like I need a drink…

mortar- yeah my dad Tivo’d the VS show for me… and when the superman first came out I was in the club and I was confused as fuck too. You are not alone. Shit I m still confused, wtf???

torrance- you re right, that is a good point. I guess it’s baby steps. I wonder if rappers annunciated, then we could teach kids how to sound more professional too…

I don't know what it is about any group dance activity that involves movement from left to right, but from the Electric Slide to this Soulja Boy trainwreck -- hordes of my honky brethren feel the need to try and join in, shaming us all.

At the same time, my real problem with the song is that godawful steel drum riff. I was hoping/praying we were done with that once people got sick of 50 Cent's act, but NOOOOO.

What's next, some hip-hop remake of a Harry Belafonte song?

ps -- did you tell them what you wanted, what you really really wanted?

I was only able to stomach like 2.9 seconds of that video, sorry. It gave me a tick and I started to spout obscenities. My boss frowns on that sort of thing.

Anyway, it gives me pause to think on all the drunk biker chicks tryin to be sexxxxxae while convulsing to the Cha-Cha slide late Friday nights at the dive I like to crawl at. Not pretty.

Flashback, I saw the Pointer Sisters at Disneyland back in 1982 (or somewhere in that timezone) whilst waiting to get on Space Mountain.

Talk about old. Jeeez, I feel ancient nowdays.

The Spice Girls?? I ain't even commentin' ;)

My wife liked the "Superman" song until she found out what it really means. Now she refuses to listen to it.

country roads- Yeah imagine like 10,000 more girls just like that…

hex- lol yeah my mom is white and thank God I got my dancing skills from my dad…

divalicious- Pointer Sisters! My mom loves them, she had me and my little brothers up on Pointer Sisters when I was little. Talkin’ about “I want the fireworks,” I was like ten. Wtf did I know about some damn fireworks? Lol

opinionated diva- that’s messed up * tear * I was excited about the concert because I was a fan when I was a little girl, but after about two songs I was kind of over it…

addmws- lol I wanted to go. I used to be a fan when I was little.

slick- I think it was the dance that killed it for me. Seriously it looks like someone is trying not to fall…
