When you give a dog an interview...

Ok I’m a little late jumping on the get-on-DMX-for-saying-some-stoopid-sh*t bandwagon, but I had to point something out. Aside from all the other BS he was talking about in his interview with XXL Magazine, his last statement on us having a black president had some truth to it…

XXL: But it would be pretty big if we had a first Black president. That would be huge.

DMX: “I mean, I guess…. What, they gon’ give a dog a bone? There you go. Ooh, we have a Black president now. They should’ve done that shit a long time ago, we wouldn’t be in the fuckin’ position we in now. With world war coming up right now. They done fucked this shit up then give it to the Black people, Here you take it. Take my mess.”

Now I’m not saying DMX is so deep that we should all become politically unaware rappers, with a “ I don’t give a f*ck” attitude. It’s just so ironic that I watched Obama’s speech on race right after reading DMX’s interview with XXL magazine. “Here you take it, take my mess”, is some real sh*t.

Look at us, this country. It’s sloppy and filled with so much hate and confusion. I mean our inability to accept differences isn’t the only reason, but it is a big part of why our economy is so f*cked up. You would think that after all this time we still didn’t have to explain to certain people that for the most part, we all sh*t the same way, but we do. We can’t accept change. We are too superficial. We are too busy focusing on the race and gender of candidates, rather than the issues they stand for.

If Obama becomes president he has a lot of work cut out for him. Ha, but that ain’t nothing new…

amen @ but thats nothing new.

I agree, this country will never accept change. Same land that goes out of its way to ban prayer in schools, yet protect the "holy land" of Israel. Our morals are ALL f*cked up.

We have no choice but to play the game, though.

Excellent points, puddin.

Not to minimize the things X said, but this is the sort of thing you'd see a few years ago when magazines would interview guys in heavy metal bands.

I mean, a dumbass statement is a dumbass statement -- but since when did anyone really care who Tommy Lee was voting for in the first damn place?

XXL might as well have asked DMX to do algebra.

Totally in agreement with Don. This country is so hypocritical and spoiled. While the optimist in me believes that change WILL come and WILL be accepted, the realist in me believes that acceptance will be a LONG time coming. Not in our lifetimes or our children's.

DMX is such a douchebag. I don't buy for a second that he's never heard of Obama.

Tyhitia Green said...

Whether or not folks want to accept change, Obama would be the most brilliant president this country has ever seen. Most presidents WERE NOT at the top of their class. Look at Dubya for godsakes...

I agree with Don that the morals in this country are so screwed up. This country needs to sweep around it's own back door before pioneering for anyone else.

Oh, rant over! LOL. Great post, Ms. P.

d- ;p

12k- yeah I read it, all that other sh*t he was talking about was like huh???

don- yeah it’s just so weird we need to get it together…slaus said over at OHN, “if we can’t accept Obama, we don’t deserve him” I agree…I’m tired of playing games!

hex- haha true, I guess your right, a majority of artists are uneducated and choose to be, since they are already wealthy loved by everybody…

miss mika- gosh WE ARE spoiled, that’s why people come here, for consumerism, to hopefully be a lead in capitalism. It’s weird to think that we are still fighting, but we are…

sabina- I agree. I think he was definitely playing a role. And some fcked up kid, who looks up to him is going to be like, “well Mr X doesn’t vote, he doesn’t know who Obama is, so why should I?” and the cycle continues grrrr…

MsFreshBananaPuddin said...

demon hunter- rant accepted LOL

I agree and it sucks he has to prove himself, because of his race...

I’ve been reading up on the Civil Rights movement lately and I just hope history doesn’t repeat itself. Ok, so you don’t like Obama because he’s black. Good for you, just don’t hurt him. Let him and his family go and go back to your miserable lives…

It's sad that people can't just be people.

It's called being color blind and moving on into a new, more peaceful point in our nation's history. I'm a white girl, with one Mexican kid and one Korean kid. I've had relationships with a black man and an Italian.

And from my life I've learned one thing....
The human heart pumps red blood regardless of the flavor of human.

You mean he actually said something that made sense in that article?

Guess I need to stop skimming & actually read shyt, huh? LOL

But...yeah...this aint nohing new...

that's because you always see segregation in the media

white people are rarely seen living with white people and vice versa

rarely seen living and interacting with asians and soo forth

when integration manifests itself on televion then we'll see it in real life

It's ok to quote people swearing, but you'd rather use an "*" when it comes out of your mouth? You should just drop the F bomb and get it over with.

DMX is a moron.

We're not "giving" Barak a chance.

He's EARNING it.

And we don't like Barak because he's black. We like his ideas and his gentile manner.

It's strange when blacks need reminding that it's not all about race!

Good post and good points, BP!

I swear, if Obama loses because of his pastor (who said things that are fucking true!!!) I will kill myself. Or move to Mexico.

and good post, btw.

you know what? i thought i was the only one who agreed with that last statement he made.

what i want to know is who is he hanging around that he doesn't know who barack obama is? i mean, is NO ONE around him talking about it? that's what concerns me more. that there may be a whole family/crew who don't know what the hay is going on either.

Mizrepresent said...

If, big IF, they allow him to win, it's only because they either 1) see some benefit in it...bc nothing is done in this country w/o looking at the major dollars to be gained...or 2) they are thinking he will fail so badly, that we will either impeach him or call for Bush to come back (which i think is hilarious)...we really don't know what them folks think, they are all about big business and power and can care less what we think on the daily...if it ain't generating income, then it is lame. So if Obama, becomes prez, i hope and know that he will prove them wrong...that we can turn this thing around...oh, i know it won't be easy, but tell me, has the last 8 years been easy...HELL NAW!

Anonymous said...

Yeah I just read that interview a few days ago. His last statement hit me big time. But with all this mess I can see some amazing changes coming our way when he's elected.

Personally I can't wait to vote for Barak because he's hot. We need some hotness in the White House right now. Gah, I cannot take four more years looking at a pasty, old ugly white men.

Obama/Edwards '08. Yum!

Great post, Puddin!

I think DMX is sorta... kinda... on the money wit that comment... could all be a plot... killing two birds with one stone... fuck something up so bad that you make people think you're the only one that can fix it... put someone else in there and make them look like an ass-clown for doing so... In this case, the GOP is coming off of 8 years with someone who was just a pawn to do the damage... now, they get super republican in there and he patches things up, because he already has the scoop... but if they let barack take the cake and he can't patch it up, they point to him and say "see... black men can't be president." completely destroying the credibility of a black man who may be a future candidate and keeping the white house white... shit is wild

Lightning Bug,
I'm not sure how you meant to convey this comment, but it didn't come across well for me.

This country is very much still racist, if you didn't notice. Just look at the Jena 6 a few months ago. People automatically assume that if Obama wins, all of the racial hatred will disseminate, er, no, it won't. But I'm sure he'll begin to quell it. It will take a loooong time to ago away.

White people bring up race all the time and it appears okay, but you make it seem like a sin if an African-American person does it. Wherein lies one of the main problems in this country...

Miss Snarky Pants said...

I've read about DMX's interview in several other posts but noone included this part.

Those last few sentences makes a whole lot of sense...

No - the problem is that people have played the victim for so long, they don't know anything better. I guess you cant expect warriors, out of defeated stock though can you..

the whole concept of whites "letting" blacks accomplish great things is both sickening, demeaning, patronizing, and the typical liberal left wing defeatest bullshyt that too many Black people seem to dine on daily.

Yeah, I said it.

In my 33 years of life, I have encountered covert and blatant racism directed towards me more times than karine steffans has taken balls to the mouth. Is it a disheartening experience? absolutely. Can it allow you to become frustated, bitter and angry? without a doubt.

But in the end I have NEVER allowed the odds against me to defeat me. Either through arrogance or sheer determination, MANY Blacks have pushed through the perverbial chains of racism and hatred in order to accomplish their goals. Through Blood sweat and TEARS on a daily basis, we persevere in the face of adversaries larger than us, stronger, and even better equipped.

And sometimes we may lose battles! we will face setbacks. But there is a difference between losing and being defeated...

When you believe in that whole: "WHite's wont let us get head..." nonsense, you only allow the racist boolshyt to persevere. You have basically laid down your weapons. You allow yourself to be defeated.

and if thats your thing, so be it...

... but stay the f*ck out of the way for those of us who aren't asking whites, or anyone else to be allowed to do a damn thing.

We just go out there and do it.

because you can't.

James "slaus" Caldwell

James "slaus" Caldwell,

I was not even referring to you and I am quite offended that you blatantly miscontrued my comment.

I never once said that Black folks had to "ask" the White man to get ahead. This is the Internet sweetie, you don't know me or have any idea who I am or what I've accomplished. No, I don't sit around playing the victim, but I don't play Uncle Tom and pretend that everything is wonderful either.

The only way to eradicate hate and ignorance is through an ongoing discourse in this country and the world.

Whatever you "thought" you got from my comment, obviously has to do with personal issues on your end...

By the way, I'm not an anonymous coward, I don't have a blogger account because I'm too busy making change in the real world...
You can't go off on someone who didn't say a word to you and not expect them to respond...I'm done.

Thanks everyone for commenting…things got a little out of hand, but I wanted a debate/discussion on this topic. It is important to moving forward. You may continue to talk amongst yourselves, I have said my peace in my post and I am neutral to this argument…

I don't envy whoever is the next president, and let's face it it will be obama, not hillary or popeye.

I think he will probably go down like Carter did. A great guy, really, but in a shitty situation. If we'd had a republican instead of carter we would probably have invaded iran, though...and here we come again. Popeye wants to invade iran and talks about it constantly in his personal life.

No one is going to be able to turn shit around in 20 years at this point, not all the way. But people need to just remember it could always be worse. We got here from 8 years of sevre fucking (as opposed to the usual fucking like the environment etc.). If we had had gore (you know, the dude who actually got elected) then we would have fusion power in full production already instead of ten years off and then we could completely ignore all the idiots int he mideast. Because seriously, is there anyone here who doesn't think they can just blow themselves up anyway? Go for it. Jump already!
